Good Evening Everyone!

It’s been roughly (3) Months since I last checked-in and WOW things have changed some – some for the good and some staying where they are…

Our tax return lasted us about 2.5 months this year – 90% of which was spent paying bills – we dedicated a large portion of it to help pay the mortgage, car payment, insurance, utilities, etc and it turned out to be a blessing for sure! Those months right after Christmas always tend to be a problem for us, but having the tax refund really helped smooth the road from that point forward.  The remaining 10% we spent on shopping – we took about $600 and hit Myrtle Beach, SC for a day of Outlet Shopping, cruising Broadway at the beach and then dinner at Red Lobster! It was a fun-filled day that we all needed!  And the rest went to little purchases here and there – movies, books, other clothing items, food, etc.

For the good, and I mentioned this on my NCReaderBlog the other day – I have taken on a 2nd job, part-time, working for an Indie Author named, Heather Hildenbrand, author of such books as ImitationDevitation, and the Dirty Blood Series, doing her administrative work – helping her with blog tours, cover reveals, working on her newsletter as she needs me do and just anything and everything she needs help with! The hours fluctuate based on her needs and schedule, but I love it! She’s an amazingly sweet lady who is just very cool!  I found this job via her Street Team facebook page and applied as soon as it hit my newsfeed – she was like whiplashed I hit her so fast w/my inquiry and resume LOL!!  This position adds an extra $40 – $80/month to our budget or $10.00/hr as her needs require, and has helped with some smaller expenses as they’ve come up – stuff like oil changes for the new van, or something as simple as putting gas in the car or paying for emergency groceries!

Another, for the good change as been a gym change for me – if you all remember roughly 15-Months ago I joined Planet Fitness to help with my weight loss goals – well I reached my goal weight and was looking to move more into weight lifting and decided to give the New Rules of Lifting for Women program a try – well to do the program in full I really needed more weight room flexibility so after a lot of soul searching I decided to leave PF and joined Gold’s Gym – and I also took on a personal training twice a month to help me reach my goals.  The costs of which were a $200.00 enrollment fee + $19.99 month for the membership and then $50.00/month for my PT – who has been well worth the expense! She’s just amazing – she’s a powerlifter and has been working with me to increase the weight I use while guiding me with proper form! I’ve been a member of Gold’s now for about a month and I feel so much more at home than I ever did at PF! Probably because I know my way around the weight room more 😉

Otherwise, we’re remaining static – the last restructure we did with Citi went through and as soon as the paperwork was returned to them they sold our loan to Midland Mortgage – who is just now receiving the paperwork from Citi – oy what a ride that’s been – but I spoke with them yesterday and all is good – our credit hasn’t been affected by the changeover and we’re paying the payments as scheduled, so we’re good!

Life continues to move forward and we’re just taking things one day at a time.

Money Weight Scale

I’ve mentioned in passing through a lot of my recent posts that I’ve been a course of  losing weight since October 2013 – since that time I’ve lost roughly 44 lbs – it’s been a  lot of hard work, watching what I’m eating, carefully logging everything that goes in my mouth, and every minute of exercise I do (no matter how minimal)…I’ve been using one site to do EVERYTHING, My Fitness Pal (http://www.myfitnesspal.com) and have loved it! The community I’ve found there has been extra supportive, pushing me when I lost my Motivation – picking me up when I felt down – and encouraging/congratulating me when I succeed! Every victory, literally, has been celebrated and I’ve loved it! For someone who suffers anxiety/depression getting outside support and encouragement means the world!

Clothes Mentor Logo So on the back-end of all of that I’ve had major amounts of shopping to do LOL! As my weight has  dropped, my clothing size has also dropped, I’ve gone from a Size 18 Pants/XXL shirts to Size 12  Pants/Medium Shirts – none and I mean literally NONE of my clothing from a year ago fits, it’s all way  too big on me and even with a belt the pants didn’t stay on…SOO I’ve hit the stores picking things up here and there.  My main source of shopping has been Target’s Clearance racks for yoga pants ($18/ea on a GC, size Medium) and Tank Tops (4 x $7/ea = $28.00), Wal-Mart’s clothing section (1 pr of Yoga Pants x $12), some random t-shirts/tanks x $4/ea on clearance and underwear, pckg of 8 pairs for $6; I’ve also hit up a consignment shop in town, walked out of there with 2 pairs of jeans and two work shirts for $48 (one pair of jeans was BRAND NEW Levi’s with the Tags’ STILL on them for $10!!! WOW!) – the only real splurge I’ve had was a good sports bra I picked up at Dick’s Sporting Goods right after Christmas for $35.00…all in all I’ve spent a good bit of our tax refund on clothes – and I still have a long way to go in terms of filling my wardrobe.  I’ll need a new pair (s) of shorts for Summer, a new bathing suit (HELLO BEACH!), some more t-shirts and new bra’s at some point…

PF Logo So how has this affected our budget?  Well since I began this track I’ve done as noted above – spent  money on new clothes – I’ve also joined a gym, Planet Fitness (www.planetfitness.com) – and I’ve added  items into our weekly food shopping for just me (whole wheat bread, I can’t believe it’s not butter light,  sugar free coffee creamer, more fruits and veggies) so those are adding up. I am hoping once I hit  maintenance I won’t have to spend quite as much…we shall see!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to us – yeah right – I am ticked, let down, saddened, etc. however you wish to put it – why? Well two reasons:

1.  Two of the girls who work with my hubby QUIT, yes you read that right, they QUIT – ADIOS, Good Bye, See Ya Later (can you imagine that in the Shrek Voice?) Anyway – this has caused his store to only be able to give him 3-days leave at Christmas…so that leads me into reason #2

2.  With the repairs to the fan on our HVAC system, costing me $289.00, the loss of work hours, and the cost of travel we’re now STUCK – yes friends I said STUCK at home in Wilmington for Christmas.  WE were scheduled to leave on Sun the 22nd and stay through until the 27th/28th and I had made plans to see numerous people while we were in Maryland for the holiday – including my Grandparents, whom I haven’t seen in 2+ years – and I am totally BUMMED about this.

To say my Christmas is already in the tank is an understatement – this time to go to Maryland and be with our families – extended family – is one of those things I look forward to most during the year and to be let down to this degree is just entirely too much for me right now…so needless to say we’ll be spending the day watching bad Christmas Movies including:

Home Alone 1 & 2

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Jingle All the Way

A Christmas Carol

Miracle on 34th Street

And many many others we own…we’re meal planning right now, but have gotten stumped with Ham & Mashed Potatoes w/Red Velvet Cake for dessert.

So to get us back on track here – last week we went a tad overboard in terms of spending – I did some shopping for Christmas gifts to send home with my Parents when they come down on the 26th (the silver lining here, they’ll be here until the 29th)…so I spent some of the cash reserves I had saved, roughly $85.00 + some from Checking $39.24.

9th Birthday Girl

This last weekend we also celebrated my daughter’s 9th Birthday – her actual birthday is Christmas Eve (another thing we’re missing is the big family party we always have for her) – by having her Girl Scout Troop over for a Slumber Party on the 14th! We had in total 8 girls plus Ashley and my son Austin, for 10 kids in total – it was total Chaos in the house!  We spent about $50.00 at the party store on balloons, goody bags, and other decor, then $32.00 at Little Ceasar’s for pizza and cheesy bread for the girls, and then another $15.00 or so at the Grocery store for brownies, sodas, and pancake mix for breakfast!  All in all I spent a grand total of $84.69 (I had budgeted $100.00, so I was under budget there!)

So here we are – the budget, enjoy:

 $25.08 Remaining from W/E 12/01/13  $525.99 Lara W/E 12/08/13 Salary, Pay Date 12/13

$5.74 Sweet Frog  $798.37 Total Pay
$4.05 Kindle Charges  $803.07 Avail. For Bills

 $20.38

I swear these student loans are going to be the death of me – notice we haven’t paid our mortgage/car payment in awhile?!?!?!? Well HELLO other bills – UGH!  I really hate this time of year in terms of finances – struggling to do Christmas shopping while balancing the bills – UGH – so I have a plan for 2014 which will be discussed with my next Budget post for the New Year!

And with the cash withdrawal – I put all of Ashley’s party stuff on my Debit card so that if there was anything left I could put it back into the general fund for the budget – and thus I was able to send $20 extra to Citi! So it worked out!

Ok so that’s that – if anyone is curious my weight loss journey is going well – I am down 18lbs – still no Gym Membership YET – but Zumba 100% oh yeah! The only downside I am seeing here is that now I have to find $$$ to go clothes shopping LOL!! My hubby in his infinite wisdom when asked by his Mother what to get me for Christmas told her to get me a Gift Card to a clothing store so I can replenish my wardrobe (collective AWWWW please!)!  After the New Year I’ll be looking for a Gym Membership and I am leaning toward Planet Fitness as they seem to be the more flexible option for me…we’ll see though!

Well it’s getting on time for me to vamoose on home – so enjoy and I will talk with ya’ll next week!
