So just a quick update on things:
1.Disability application has been submitted – we’re waiting on SSI to call and schedule my husband’s appointment with their doctor.
2. We have received the funds from Wells Fargo,  – we lost both electric and water last week and an angel paid those bills for us – I’ve paid our angel back and sent a payment to Silver’s finance company.
3. Tomorrow I am going to go and get her inspected and re-registered.  Then I’ll need to call the court in the county where I got my ticket and see what the next steps are to clear the ticket.
4. The Non-profit will get their gap funds tomorrow and then they’ll move forward with closing.
5. We’re still waiting on DSS to let us know about Medicaid for Jimmy and I – seems his legs aren’t getting better, and in fact he’s having similar pain issues like he did when a blood vessel burst all those years ago – and now my jaw on lower right side is aching like there’s no tomorrow – when I had my tooth out on Veteran’s day the dentist wanted to root canal two teeth on that side and I said no as I couldn’t afford it…ugh…
6. Have an afghan ready for delivery and for final payment to be made. Isn’t it pretty?!?!?
7. I have another Dobby order..coming on the back-end of an order for two together!
8.  I have also been offered full-time work with the retail store I have been working for lately! I start 7/3 in another department!! YAY!!!
Things are moving forward albeit slowly.

Ok so in the middle of the week we also received our State Tax Refund, $105.00, so that’s been added back into our budget.

Explanation for Hertz – I was involved in another wreck this morning – this time it was 100% my fault – filed the claim with the insurance and picked up a rental car at their rate so we can still get to work, the gym, scouts and the grocery store.  The cost listed is a $200.00 deposit hold on top of my cost – which for a week is $120.00 + taxes/fees, not terrible in truth.  Final amount will be determined once the repairs are done on Silver.

Anyhew, that’s about it from us this week! One more large bill due, the taxes on Silver so we can get the tags renewed.  That’ll be next week’s payout, think I’ve spent enough this week.

Good Evening/Morning what have you readers!

I know things have been absolutely up and down lately but I have had a bit of luck, I applied for this position last week, got called by the staffing agency trying to fill it, and they brought me in, sent me to the customer and yeah well I managed to secure a temp spot!  It’s at least through the end of the year working for a State Government Agency literally 5 mins from my house! Oh yeah loving that part of it! It’s doing payroll work – timecard entry, tracking of deductions, etc.  It’s way more than I’ve done in the past, but I am confident I can handle it.  They are hiring for the position permanently – and they’d posted it last week – so I went ahead and applied Friday evening when I got home – will be shooting a message to the HR manager on Monday morning when I get into work.  I know I can handle the position, I know I can do it, there’s a LOT to learn but you know I already know how to do 1/2 of it…so we’ll see!

On the flip side though, last Wednesday morning before I started working we went to this Herbalife place we love and had some breakfast smoothies.  On the way out I grabbed a hat & scarf set I’d made to give to the owner, well not only did we get our smoothies for free she offered me a small spot in her store to sell some items! WHAT?!?! I am soo very excited! So I’ve spent the last three days crocheting up a STORM, I’ve made three more of the same sets, some rope scarves, one with a matching ear warmer, a Dobby the House Elf doll, a Christmas basket, and some cup cozy’s…I don’t have much in my thoughts, but I don’t want to make too much and have it not sell, so it’s a balancing act for sure.  So I am very hopeful that this will turn things around ever so slightly for us.

Still no decisions on how we’re going to proceed with the mortgage…but right now we’re in a holding pattern…

Well here we are Day 4 of unemployment…

Not overly happy with my current situation, but this week I’ve just tried my best to relax and just unwind some before jumping headfirst into the job search next week…

I’ve registered with NC Works, filed for unemployment, and have gone on one interview at a staffing agency, the rest of the week I’ve spent creating fun and awesome crochet stuff, hitting the gym and sleeping! Hee Hee guess that’s a good way to spend a vacation week, no?

Oh I have also scheduled my COPAT (Corr. Officer Physical Agility Test) with the Dept of Corrections, that’s scheduled for 11/19, giving me ample time to prepare for it.  There’s a lot of physical work I need to put in to get 100% ready for it, my trainer has offered to help me in any way she can, so I am just doing what I can on my own and will incorporate into my workouts what she suggests.

Next week, I jump in full force, taking my turn looking for work in the afternoon, going to the gym, and planning Girl Scout meetings for my Brownies’ badge work, all the while also working on fun crochet stuff – see a theme here?! LOL!!!

Anyhew, tomorrow my severance, bonus, and vacation time payout hit my bank account, so we’ll be living on that money for awhile, next week we also have to go to DSS to submit more paperwork for the kids’ Health Choice and see about bumping up our food stamp monthly allotment from $258/month, to more now we’re down to just two Unemployment Incomes per month instead of one + a salary.

Figured I’d drop in an update…nothing really earth shattering has happened since I walked out of my office for the last time last week…can’t turn my work brain off though…really hoping the replacement is doing what she’s supposed to, and that my poor co-worker they had me cross train isn’t dealing with her too much…will send her an email tonight to say hey and check-in…can’t just shut-off five years…

Also, please remember you can get personalized hand crafted Crochet creations from my Etsy Shop!

Good Morning Friends!

Happy Thursday! Hope Everyone’s had a good couple of weeks since my last update.

Right now here’s where we are

Hubby is still unemployed and searching – he had one “interview/information session” with a place on Monday that wanted him to pay something like $1,500 to get licensing and certifications…um yeah not gonna happen.  He’s done a handful of those personality type assessments (which BTW he’s really getting tired of doing) and still natch.  He spends close to 6 hours a day searching for work – I’ve had to impress strongly on him the need to take breaks and find some balance within his job search – he’d cut pretty much all of us out and was so focused on that he couldn’t see the forest for the trees, was truly frustrating.

Anyhew, we were planning to go camping with our Girl Scout troop this weekend, but couldn’t justify the cost of a tent, two new sleeping bags + pads and mess kits, so it was decided I’d go alone with our daughter borrowing a tent from our troop leader…we already have the sleeping bags/mess kits from previous trips.  So tomorrow we leave for a weekend of fun in the sun at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Tabor City – roughly 90ish mins. from our home in Wilmington – the troop is paying for the trip, I just had to give a $20 food contribution.

Food stamp card

The only real changes since my last update are that we were finally approved for Food Stamps – to the tune of $228/month – what they expect us to be able to buy with that is just astounding…ugh…that’s literally $57/week…our normal grocery budget is $150 – $200/week…so this should be real interesting.

Unemployment did finally get back to my Hubby and told him he should have a decision letter by the end of the week…haven’t seen on yet, so maybe today or tomorrow’s mail.

Though I did also get my 1st Order from my Etsy shop!  YEAH!!! Though it was a family member she did order and afghan and a scarf/hat set sold for a total of $142.00 including shipping! Working my way through completing that order along with two other orders, one for a Monster High hat & arm warmer set, sold for cost of supplies, and a Minecraft themed hat/scarf set, sold for $35.00, profit on my end will be $30.00 – got the hats of both of those completed, check them out

Enderman Minecraft Hat 2 Monster High Hat Black 2

Aren’t they cool?!?!? I am looking forward to getting the rest of the orders completed.  So that’s where I’m at right now…still trying to figure out the profit/loss + shipping stuff for the Etsy shop, not 100% on the balances there.

Hope everyone’s having a Good Week…we’re getting there slowly but surely!

Well here we are roughly a month out from my Hubby losing his job – the job search is still going – he spends the better part of his day searching for and applying to new jobs – he’s had two bites – both Pet Retailers – one has sent him for a Drug Screen and are doing a Background Check but we wait…and we wait…and wait some more…in the mean time we’re doing our very best to try and get by.  That’s a good way to put it – get by.

After my last post I did do some thinking, digging, investigating and decided to open an Etsy shop to try and sell some of my crochet – so here it is

I also have a Website where I blog about my work and share the latest and greatest projects, such as these

Black Pink White Baby Blanket Boy Flip Fops Completed with Buttons 1 Burgundy-Gold Scarf wtih Fringe Crochet Pattern Booties Completed 1 Green Yellow White Afghan Hat & Scarf Multi-Colored Chevron Scrapghan Redskins Baby Blanket with Hat Roses 2

So I do it all – blankets, hats, scarves, etc. I haven’t attempted any sweaters/clothes, but that’s next I’ll bet!

Anyhew – this venture hasn’t brought in much other than the $75.00 for the previous afghan and about $40.00 for the White Flip Flops for a friend.  The other two projects are just about finished, putting finishing touches on one as we speak and will be delivering those this weekend.

So now down to the Nitty Gritty

I have added us to my Company’s Health Insurance and that literally eats into 2/3 of my paycheck, rendering my last one less than $300 – how is someone supposed to live on that? Ugh – we’re still waiting for his Unemployment and our Food Stamps – both places have told us it’ll be another 3-Weeks before we receive either of those benefits, lovely right?  So until then we borrow from Peter to pay Paul – so I borrowed from the Vehicle tax payment to pay the water bill yesterday, $174 to prevent shut-off.   I will say this though – being on the company benefits + having enrolled in our living well program did give us a discount + it’ll reimburse me quarterly for my Monthly gym membership dues…so YAY there! I’ve filed for 1st & 2nd Quarter and am waiting for that payment.

If there was more Overtime to be had I’d take it – but alas there’s not – I am so slow at work right now I am literally going insane sitting here day in and day out.

On the upside though my daughter went back to school today – year round school – and her supply list was all of (4) Four items + 1 donation item for the classroom and we managed to find her a pair of sneakers at a Thrift store here in town for like $10.00, and since school just let out 6-Weeks ago she hasn’t grown so much we need to replace her entire school wardrobe, Thank Goddess for that!

So that’s where we are right now…

Well here we are it’s been two weeks since my hubby lost is job and we’re still very much up in the air…nothing has been settled apart from getting us on my company’s insurance, we’re still waiting for the cards, but everything else is pretty much settled.  Thankfully!

When I last touched base with everything he’d just lost his job – the AC was out – hubby scoured the internet and found a company that was willing to work with us financially and they sent a technician out the next day and repaired our unit for $200 ($100 paid when he did the repairs and the balance was paid that Friday when I got paid)

Then the SAME day our AC was out my Hard Drive on my computer (work) had crashed – did I mention that little nugget?  Yeah it took a nose dive onto the floor and BAM the hard drive was toast…ugh managed to get it to the IT team here at work – they replaced the hard drive and got me back up and running – however, I’ve spent the last two weeks rebuilding all of my work documents.

And then on Tuesday my hubby posts to Facebook that our Washer Exploded…yeah you read that right EXPLODED – not quite literally – but just the same the thing decided it was going to break down in such a way that there’s no hope we can jerry-rig it.  We have a Front Loader Frigidaire washing machine w/matching dryer, they were housewarming gifts from my Grandparents when we closed on the house, total cost was like $1100 for the pair, and this was seven years ago mind you.  About a year ago the lock on the washer went out and the spin cycle decided to not work properly we’ve managed to jerry rig it so that we can run the spin cycle and it worked – well hubby was running my daughter’s laundry post camp when mid-cycle he heard a loud bang…he went into the laundry room and found this

Washer 1Washer 4

Yup the glass on the door just imploded! He called Frigidaire yesterday and they offered to SELL him a warranty for $400 and then they’d sent out a technician ON OUR DIME to see IF (yes I said IF) it needed replacing or could be repaired…so yeah we’re screwed – as of right now we can’t run any laundry and with four people in the house its piling up quickly.

On a positive side note a couple of weeks ago I posted on the Wilmington Buy-Trade-Sell Facebook group a free scrapghan and the flood gates just opened – EVERYONE wanted it – and some people even requested I make them afghans – some were serious – others not so much – I’ve already sold one, a pink Granny Square style one, isn’t it pretty? I was almost finished with it when she requested a Pink/White afghan – I told her I was almost finished with this one and she grabbed it – we agreed on a price and she paid me $75.00 for it!

Pink Afghan

Thus far only one woman has been serious about it and she ordered two afghans – one a daisy granny square pattern and the other a chevron pattern one…the daisy afghan is done, and I’m just getting started on the chevron pattern one – here’s the Granny Square one

Daisy Afghan 1 Daisy Afghan 2 Daisy Afghan 3

So Pretty!  I’m not sure how much she’s willing to pay for them – she said cost of supplies + so we’ll see – I am super excited about this!

In the meantime we pray and hope – hubby is headed to DSS today to try and get us Food Stamps – we’re still waiting to hear back on whether or not he’ll get his unemployment – evidently his employer isn’t being responsive to the ESC, wonderfrigginful – so we wait…later in the summer may be looking at some VERY hard decisions – especially about our home – we obviously can’t afford the house + the van + the insurance + feeding ourselves + groceries + utilities so if he doesn’t get a job &/or the unemployment + food stamps don’t fall in line we’re screwed.  We know for sure we HAVE to keep the Van – we need our reliable transportation, so when it comes to pay the mortgage or pay the van we’ll pay the van…we’ll see – but most likely our options are these:

1. Walk away from the house and my job and head back to MD – NOT my top idea honestly – if this happens it’ll be on the coast of MD – I have to be on the coast

2.  Walk away from the house and my job and hit the road in Silver (van) and just drive around the country camping, living out of Silver, homeschooling the kids and working odd jobs

3.  Walk away from the house, keep my job, stay in NC and move into a cheaper home – the only issue I foresee here is our five furbabies…

Until we know for sure what we’re doing the balls are in the air – quite literally…

Until next time…
